How Safe Are We?

State of Homeland Security Examined at the Third Annual Security Summit Presented by ADT

Top Homeland Security Expert and Former Coast Guard Commander Stephen Flynn; Former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Nancy G. Brinker among Distinguished Group of Panelists

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 21 urity Services, Inc., the nation's leader in electronic security services, along with the Women's Chamber of Palm Beach County, will hold a community forum on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Mar-A-Lago Club from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time to examine homeland security issues on a local and national level. The ADT Security Summit will be held in conjunction with the Ladies Professional Golf Association's (LPGA) season-ending ADT Championship.

Featured speakers at the Summit are the Honorable Nancy G. Brinker, former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, and Dr. Stephen Flynn, the Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Senior Fellow for National Security Studies at the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Flynn is a former Coast Guard Commander and is regarded as one of the nation's leading experts on homeland security. Also
speaking will be Lauren Gail Stover, the Regional Spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration; Lori Baer, Deputy Director, Port of Palm Beach; and Ric Bradshaw, Chief of Police of the City of West Palm Beach. The speakers will offer national and local insights on how well we are coping with the terrorist threat to the U.S. homeland.

"Since 9/11, Washington has spent hundreds of billions of dollars fighting the war on terrorism overseas, while at home we are still struggling to address our myriad vulnerabilities," Stephen Flynn argues in a forthcoming book entitled America the Vulnerable. "Our airports are more secure, but our seaports and much of the critical infrastructure that underpin our daily life
remain tempting targets for would-be terrorists." The ADT Security Summit, held in partnership with the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County, is a community forum to discuss topical and far-ranging security issues from personal to national security, which has been at the forefront of the news and public concern since the events of September 11, 2001.
"We all play a part in making our world a safer place to live," said Mike Snyder, president, ADT Security Services, Inc. "The Security Summit is a way for ADT to reach out to the community and show how corporations, non- governmental organizations like the Women's Chamber, and individual citizens can all work together to support the efforts of the local and national
government."

Members of the 2003 ADT Security Summit panel include:
Stephen Flynn, Commander, U.S. Coast Guard (retired) and Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations Dr. Flynn has been a Senior Fellow with the National Security Studies Program at the Council on Foreign Relations, headquartered in New York City, since June 1999. He is the founder of an innovative private-public partnership to advance global container security involving the America's largest ports known as "Operation Safe Commerce." Dr. Flynn ranks among the world's most widely cited experts on homeland security, border control, and trade and transportation security issues and has appeared on 60 Minutes among
other national news programs.
